Château Quintus

A.O.C Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classe

France

Château Quintus is a beautiful French winery located in the region of Saint Emilion. It is the producer of the Grand Cru Classe, Le Dragon de Quintus 2017.

It all started in 2011, when Domaine Clarence Dillon acquired a superb property in Saint-Emilion, now renamed Château Quintus. In 2013, Chateau Quintus acquired another neighboring property, and a third in 2021. These three exceptional properties now form a vineyard of 45 hectares producing one of the best wines of Saint-Emilion.

In 2021, Château Quintus became one of the largest properties in Saint-Emilion, covering 45 hectares, 42 of which are vineyards. The addition of these illustrious terroirs gives the winemaking teams an even richer palette to create their blends from the most demanding grape selection.

The three properties that have come together to create Château Quintus are among the oldest and most recognized crus of Saint-Emilion. All three were historically cited in the Guide Féret, published between 1908 and 1949 as "Premier Cru de Saint-Emilion".

The name of Château Quintus comes from the Gallo-Romans, creators of the Saint-Emilion vineyard. They used to name their fifth child Quintus (fifth). Domaine Clarence Dillon has decided to pay tribute to its glorious predecessors by renaming the vineyard Château Quintus.

The number 5 (V) characterizes this property with its slopes and plots of land that face the four cardinal points, and that incline towards the sky towards which the winegrowers turn every day to know the augury.

Perched on a limestone promontory at an altitude of 62 meters, Château Quintus offers a majestic 360° view of the Dordogne valley. Its plateau, facing north, west and south, overlooks an incredible wealth of microclimates and clay-limestone soils that are conducive to the finest expressions of the Merlot and Cabernet Franc grape varieties.

Overlooking the valley, a huge bronze statue of a six-meter dragon stands on the promontory where a watchtower once stood to watch over the estate. Inspired by the Western legend of the dragon as a fabulous creature with keen eyesight, protecting a priceless treasure, this statue created by Mark Coreth with its wings spread wide has become the symbol of the estate.
