Salanques 2018 is a wine that begins with a philosophy before it begins with a grape variety. Mas Doix, founded in 1998 by Valentí and Ramon Llagostera, has built its entire reputation on a commitment to maintaining, caring for and strengthening the ancient vines of D.O.Q Priorat — exercising a deep respect for the environment, its culture and its people in every decision made in the vineyard and the cellar. Salanques is the expression of that commitment at its most accessible and immediate: a blend of Garnacha and Cariñena from old vines with a small contribution of Syrah from younger plantings, grown on the black llicorella slate soils that give Priorat wines their distinctive mineral intensity and depth. Every bunch undergoes a double selection, and each small parcel is vinified separately — a painstaking process that ensures the unique character of every individual piece of Priorat land is preserved and expressed in the final blend with complete fidelity. The result is a wine that conveys the true character of Priorat through balance and intensity rather than weight and power — an honest and genuinely beautiful introduction to one of Spain's most celebrated and demanding wine landscapes.
