Lagarona Cepas Viejas 2016 comes from a place of genuine and irreplaceable viticultural significance. The Estancia Piedra estate in the valley of Toro, in the heart of the Duero Valley, is home to the largest single plot of old vines in the entire Toro denomination — over 35 hectares where Tinta de Toro and Garnacha have been historically cultivated together since the vineyard was founded in 1968. Tinta de Toro — Tempranillo as it has evolved over centuries in one of Spain's most extreme continental climates, with scorching summers, bitter winters and the altitude and mineral soils of the Duero plateau — produces wines of exceptional concentration, natural power and a depth that is entirely its own. The 2016 Cepas Viejas is matured for 16 months in French oak before spending a further two years resting in bottle under the careful watch of a team whose entire professional purpose is to ensure that the passion and character of this extraordinary land reaches the glass in full and perfect expression.
