Step into the captivating world of Saint Préfert, a winery with a history that spans over a century, starting back in 1920. The vineyards of Saint Préfert hold a secret beneath their soil. It's a magical combination of stony, porous terrain that allows air and water to flow freely, creating an ideal environment for the vines. But it's the hidden treasure, the blue clay layer that lies deep below, that truly sets these vineyards apart. This unique blue clay originates from the ancient bed of the Rhône river and works wonders in the soil, imparting a richness and uniqueness to the wines that is truly extraordinary.

Among their remarkable wines is Beatus Ille, a true gem in their collection. This splendid creation is predominantly crafted from the expressive Grenache grape, with a delightful blend of about 15% Cinsault sourced from two distinct parcels. One of these parcels, named La Lionne, lies in the Sorgues district, nestled right on the southern border of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The other parcel finds its home in the enchanting village of Vedène. To add a touch of elegance, a small portion of Syrah from the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape is carefully blended in. The grapes are meticulously destemmed, and the entire fermentation and aging process takes place in sturdy cement tanks, allowing the wine to develop its full potential.

Winemaker's Notes

This spectacular red shows all the trait of the great Crus of Souther Rhone wine but with youthful approachability. Ruby red with notes of cassis, plums, and fresh red berries with hints of licorice, spices, and truffle. Supple but generous mouthfeel with velvety tannins. We recommend pairing this wine with stews, braised and roasted meat dishes, all types of beef, lamb, goat, beef, duck, chicken and pork. We suggest a serving temperature of 16ºC

About the Winery

The story of Saint Préfert begins more than a century ago, in 1920. A great wine connoisseur, Fernand SERRE, a pharmacist in Avignon, discovered a district of Châteauneuf du Pape one day, the Greenhouse district. A great lover of wine and a fine apothecary, he acquired more than 80 hectares in this area located on the southern side of the village with a secret desire: to become a winegrower.
