Winemaker's Notes

Deep ruby with commanding presence — the colour of 70-year-old Rioja Alta vines given 20 months of French oak and the full attention of one of Spain's most historically distinguished estates. On the nose, black pepper, cumin and sweet cinnamon announce a wine of genuine spice authority and aromatic complexity — the unmistakable signature of ancient vine terroir and patient oak maturation working as one. On the palate, full-bodied and powerful with robust tannins and a tension that speaks of a wine built for the long haul — pure, unadulterated and worthy of the 94 Robert Parker points that confirmed what the Hernáiz family and the Empress before them always knew about this land. Each bottle in this case carries identical quality, identical provenance and identical potential. Four opportunities to experience something genuinely imperial. Best enjoyed with lamb, beef, chorizo, Iberian ham and aged cheeses. Serve at 16°C.
