Herdade dos Grous — the estate of the cranes — takes its name from the birds that have always shared this extraordinary landscape with the vines. More than 2,718 acres of unspoiled Alentejo nature, where tranquility and the pioneering spirit of modern Portuguese viticulture exist in complete and deliberate harmony. The estate was established in 1987, when oenologist Luís Duarte began cultivating the vineyards with the conviction that the Alentejo's ancient soils and generous sun deserved the very best of modern winemaking technology — a conviction that led to the construction of a state-of-the-art wine cellar in 2005 and established Herdade dos Grous as one of the most respected and forward-looking addresses in Portuguese wine. The 2020 white is a blend of Antão Vaz, Arinto and Roupeiro — three native varieties manually selected on a specially built platform, instantly cooled to 10°C on arrival at the winery, cold decanted for up to two days and fermented in steel vats at a precisely controlled 14°C for three weeks. The result is a golden green white of intense tropical fruit aromatics, rich and fine on the palate, with the well-balanced acidity that three complementary native varieties and complete winemaking precision always produce when the estate and the oenologist both understand exactly what they are working with.
