Bierzo sits in the northwestern corner of Castilla y León — a valley appellation where Atlantic air funnels through mountain passes and slate soils give Mencía a mineral freshness and aromatic complexity that no other terroir in Spain consistently replicates. Vinos Valtuille was founded in 1999 by Dimas García Canedo in the village of Valtuille de Abajo, with the conviction that great wine begins with the vineyard and that the land deserves the same respect that every generation of his family has always given it. His children Elena and Marcos now work alongside him, carrying forward the values of effort, care and terroir fidelity that define every wine the winery makes. The Pago de Valdoneje is their most celebrated expression: Mencía from vines over 85 years old, whose extraordinary root depth in ancient Bierzo slate extracts the blackberry, wild berry, smoke, licorice and balsamic mint complexity that only near-century-old vines on this specific geology produce — and that 93 Peñín points have confirmed as among the finest value expressions of Bierzo's great native variety in the appellation.
