Propòsit Negre 2018 is built around a winemaking decision that reveals the intelligence behind it: each variety in the blend is aged for precisely as long as it deserves and no longer. The 50% Syrah spends 12 months in French oak — long enough to develop depth and complexity while preserving its natural fruit vibrancy. The 25% Cabernet Sauvignon ages for 18 months — the longer program that its natural structure and concentration can sustain and reward. The 25% Merlot is kept young and unwooded — deliberately so, contributing the freshness and fruit energy that balances the entire blend and gives the wine its characteristic kindness and approachability. The grapes come from the Calonge area in D.O. Empordà, Catalonia — where the hot, dry climate influenced by the Gavarres mountain range produces fruit of natural concentration and aromatic depth. Celler Viníric, David Saavedra's own project on the Costa Brava, combines traditional knowledge — moon phase monitoring, natural fertilisers — with innovative techniques including cold fermentation and inertisation, producing wines that carry both the history of the landscape and the ambition of a winemaker who has spent his career learning how to express it.
