Château Haut-Bages-Libéral is a distinguished fifth Grand Cru classified according to the prestigious 1855 list. Located on the Bages plateau overlooking Pauillac, it takes its name from its exceptional location and from the name of former owners.
The Liberal family has been in the business of winemaking for centuries. They have owned Château Haut-Bages since the beginning of the 18th century and are well-known for their top-notch wines, which make them highly sought after around the world.
Their estate was officially classified as a Grand Cru Classé in 1855, thanks to their tremendous efforts collecting the best terroirs of Pauillac in order to achieve creating amazing wines. It's clear that this family knows their stuff when it comes to making exquisite wine!
The vineyard covers 30 hectares of gravelly soil on clay-limestone bedrock, with an average age of its vines being 35 years old. It produces approximately 200,000 bottles per year across 160 to 170 barrels, which are all harvested manually.
The primary grape varieties used at this Château are Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) and Merlot Noir (25%), which are barrel aged for 12 to 18 months before bottling. It neighbours Château Latour and adjoins the vines of Pichon Baron.
