Wine for beginners: Types of wine

Learning about wines is similar to learning about art or music. For starters, learning about wine can be daunting. It requires a rich experience and, frankly, it does not suit everyone. Which means it's about to be the most delusional time of the year, as well. Still, knowledge means power, doesn't it?

Therefore, for beginners, let's start with the main types of wines:

RED WINE

Like the name, the color of the red wine ranges from dark purple to blood red. Its color is derived from the grape variety used - mostly black and dark red grapes. The pressing process also includes preserving the pomace from the grapes, giving the whole wine a full-bodied aroma.

Also, red wines are great to keep in the cellar; the older the wine, the higher its price. The most popular red wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Rioja Blanca, Cava, Pinot Noir and Merlot. It is especially served with lamb, beef or smoked meat.

WHITE WINE

Curiosities: white wine has existed for at least 2,500 years.

White wine is a light-colored wine, ranging from straw-yellow to golden-yellow. It is made by fermenting the pulp of white and black grapes. Compared to red wines, white wines do not last long in the cellar. However, there are quite a few white wines worth trying.

ROSÉ WINE

Rosé wine is the easiest to produce. Because the process is so simple, many believe that rosé wine is the oldest type of wine.

The popularity of rosé wine has grown over the years. One factor for this is that it can be easily drunk, but it is also versatile in accompanying a wide variety of dishes.

SPARKLING WINE

A wine with effervescence - hence its name. Sparkling wine is a carbonated wine, created by two methods: the champagne method and the Charmat Martinotti method.

Mostly served on special occasions, sparkling wine is best served with seafood such as oysters, smoked salmon, caviar, shellfish.
and shrimp
