El Lagar de Moha
D.O. Rueda
Spain
El Lagar de Moha is a family project where the passion for wine has been passed down from generation to generation, and today's Ángeles Ortega and Alberto Moro carry on the tradition, this time surrounded by 100% organic vineyards. They have dedicated themselves to organic farming to preserve the balance of the vineyard ecosystem. It is located in the region of Castilla y León, Spain, and its vineyards are under the Rueda Designation of Origin.
Care for the environment and for wine quality are the two basic pillars of the winery.
Today they have a production fully certified by the European Union as organic. All grapes are grown organically, using solutions based on chamomile, nettle, fennel and buttermilk, among others, to strengthen the plants against possible pests and fungi.
Three varieties are currently used to produce Lagar de Moha wines: Verdejo, Sauvignon Blanc and Godello. Verdejo is the native variety of the Rueda appellation. Sauvignon Blanc is an adapted variety brought from the Loire region (France), while Godello is a Spanish variety originally from Galicia.
The winery is currently in the process of diversifying its white grape varieties to produce unique wines with new flavours. It is one of the few wineries that prefers to sacrifice quantity for quality and only releases products that meet high quality standards.
