Marqués de Griñón Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 carries more history in its bottle than almost any other wine in the Dis&Dis collection. The Valdepusa estate in Toledo has been in the Falcó family since 1292 — over seven centuries of unbroken connection to a single piece of Spanish land. But it was Don Carlos Falcó, Marqués de Griñón, who transformed that extraordinary heritage into a winemaking revolution. When he planted Cabernet Sauvignon at Valdepusa in the 1970s, he was doing something no one in Spain had done before — and when he introduced drip irrigation as a quality tool, he was doing something no vineyard in the world had done before. That innovation — designed specifically to prevent over-ripening and preserve the natural freshness and acidity of the grape — became standard practice across the world's finest wine estates. In 2003, Valdepusa became the first single estate in Spain to be awarded its own Denomination of Origin, a recognition of a terroir and a vision that had always deserved it. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is matured for 12 to 15 months in fresh French Allier oak barrels — one of the most prestigious oak sources in the world — and is the direct expression of everything Carlos Falcó believed a Spanish Cabernet Sauvignon could be.
