Elaboration
Château Moulin de la Rose 2018 is an exemplary Saint-Julien from one of the Left Bank's most distinguished small estates, owned by the renowned Delon family. Planted on the finest gravel soils of the Garonne de Saint-Julien, the 30-year-old vines produce a classic Bordeaux blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot — a composition that perfectly expresses Saint-Julien's signature combination of structure, fruit and elegance. Following vinification, the wine is aged for 20 months in oak barrels, developing exceptional complexity and depth. The 2018 vintage is widely considered one of Bordeaux's finest recent years, making this a particularly compelling wine with outstanding aging potential for years to come.
Winemaker's Notes
Deep ruby red with great intensity. On the nose, refined aromas of liquorice and dark chocolate accompanied by subtle, well-integrated oak. On the palate, rich black fruits, melted tannins and substance with vanilla and oak complexity, finishing with a beautifully persistent sensation of fresh red fruits. A wine that perfectly embodies the elegance and generosity of Saint-Julien terroir. Best paired with beef, lamb, white meats and aged cheeses. Serve between 16°C and 18°C.
About the Winery
Half of the estate´s name is probably due to the former presence of a mill, and the other half seems to be linked with a knight named Chevalier Larose, who owned the neighboring great growth, Château Gruaud Larose, in the 18th century.
Acquired in 1971 by Guy Delon, Château Moulin de la Rose is now managed by his children, Jean-François (Technical Director) and Guylène (Administrative Director). A small enclave among the classified growths of Saint-Julien with just 5 hectares of vines surrounded by grand crus classés, Château Moulin de la Rose is nicknamed the "Lilliputian of Saint-Julien". The estate has a homogeneous terroir with some of the best gravelly oil in Saint-Julien. The blend of grape varieties (65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot), produces a generous, tannic wine that maintains all the smoothness and finesses of the great wines of Saint-Julien.
