Elaboration
Most wine lovers have never heard of Hondarribi Zerratia. That is precisely what makes G22 one of the most quietly extraordinary whites in the Dis&Dis collection. Grown on 40 hectares of steep, southeast-facing slopes in Bizkaia — the Basque Country's most dramatically Atlantic wine landscape, where humidity, morning sun and cooling sea winds shape every vintage — this rare variety produces grapes in very small clusters of between 100 and 120 grams, scarce per vine and hand-harvested in October with the care and patience that only a family winery with roots deep in the landscape can consistently apply. The low yield per hectare is not an inconvenience — it is the point. It is what allows Gorka Izagirre to produce a Txakoli of exceptional ripeness, structural concentration and aromatic complexity that goes far beyond the light, zippy character the category is generally known for. G22 2019 is the elegance and subtlety of an Atlantic white in its most refined form — fresh, fluid and alive with the character of a place and a grape variety that rewards every curious glass with something genuinely new.
Winemaker's Notes
Clean and bright yellow in the glass, with greenish reflections on the surface — the luminous, precise colour of a wine made from hand-selected grapes on steep Atlantic slopes, vinified with complete respect for the variety's natural character. On the nose, very intense and persistent from the first moment: fresh pear and apple open with clarity and focus, followed by white flowers and a spiced, balsamic dimension that adds depth and a quietly compelling complexity to the aromatic portrait. On the palate, a pleasant and well-structured mid-palate delivers the wine's full character — fruit and flowers intertwined with balsamic notes, carried by the natural freshness and acidity that defines great Atlantic white wine and finishes with the kind of length and satisfaction that makes G22 a discovery worth sharing. Best enjoyed as an aperitif or with white meat, fish and seafood. Serve between 8 and 10°C.
About the Winery
Gorka Izagirre is a family project born in the vineyard and built around a single, unalterable conviction: that Bizkaia's identity — its slopes, its Atlantic climate, its rare native varieties — is not a starting point to be refined away but the very thing worth protecting and expressing. Across 40 hectares of steep, southeast-facing plots integrated into the Bizkaia landscape, the winery grows Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Zerratia by hand, harvesting in October at the low yields that make structured, high-quality Txakoli possible. At Dis&Dis, Gorka Izagirre is the discovery that Txakoli — a word most wine lovers associate with simple, everyday freshness — is, in the right hands and on the right slopes, capable of something far more interesting than the category's reputation suggests.
