Castillo de Monjardin Deyo Merlot de Autor 2017 carries its name from a castle and a conviction. Finca Deyo takes its identity from the ancient Castle of Deyo — a fortification of genuine historical significance to the 12th century Kingdom of Navarra — and the wine produced from it carries that sense of history and place in every bottle. Crafted from 100% Merlot grown in Castillo de Monjardin's 220 hectares of vineyards in the middle part of Navarra, at the foot of the Pyrenees not far from the French border, this is a wine that occupies a genuinely interesting geographical and stylistic position — Navarra terroir with a Bordeaux soul. The winemakers complete malolactic fermentation in the finest French oak barrels before aging the wine for a further 14 months in those same barrels — a decision that integrates the oak influence at the most fundamental level and produces the round, structured elegance and sincere fruit expression that defines this wine's distinctive character.
