In 2002, the Alonso del Yerro family made a decision that their wines have been justifying ever since: they left Madrid, bought 26 hectares of Tempranillo vineyards at Finca Santa Marta in Roa, Burgos, and committed themselves completely to the land. The Ribera del Duero project that followed earned them a reputation for wines of intensity, finesse and the deep personal conviction that only a family with everything invested in a single dream consistently produces. Paydos extends that conviction into D.O. Toro — a separate but equally committed project built around 80-year-old Tinta de Toro bush vines from one of the appellation's finest zones, where sandy gravel soils and an extreme continental climate give the variety the depth and structural complexity that the family's 94 Parker points confirm is among the most compelling expressions of Toro produced today. Hand-harvested for an exclusive production of just 5,000 bottles, aged 15 months on fine lees in French oak — the 2016 is, according to the family themselves, one of the finest Paydos vintages since the wine's inception.
