Elaboration
Familia Torres has been rooted in the viticultural tradition of the Penedès since the 16th century — founding their winery in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1870 and passing the passion for wine culture from generation to generation with the combination of respect for the land, family legacy and firm commitment to innovation that has made them one of Spain's most celebrated and internationally recognised wine families. Today, the fifth generation focuses on single-vineyard wines, the recovery of ancestral varieties and the regenerative viticulture that Torres has championed since becoming a founding member of International Wineries for Climate Action in 2008. Viña Esmeralda sits at the heart of the Torres portfolio as one of its most enduring and most joyful expressions: a blend of Muscat of Alexandria — for its intensely floral, honey-tinged aromatic generosity — and Gewürztraminer — for its exotic spice and lychee-scented complexity — producing a Mediterranean white of immediate fragrance, soft sweetness and the seductive, orange blossom finish that has made this wine a favourite across generations of wine lovers in over 140 countries.
Winemaker's Notes
Bright straw yellow in the glass — clean, luminous and immediately promising. On the nose, very fragrant and immediately seductive: lemon blossom and delicate floral notes opening first, ripe grape and apple following, with the characteristic Mediterranean freshness of the Penedès lifting everything into a portrait of genuine aromatic generosity and delight. On the palate, soft and seductive — a sweet finish with hints of orange blossom honey that lingers with warmth and complete satisfaction. Best enjoyed with seafood appetisers, fish, pâtés and oriental cuisine. Serve between 7°C and 10°C.
About the Winery
Familia Torres has been making wine in the Penedès since 1870 — a family rooted in Catalan viticultural tradition since the 16th century, now in its fifth generation and more ambitious than ever. Present in Penedès, Priorat, Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Rías Baixas, Chile and California, Torres is one of the most geographically diverse and consistently celebrated wine families in the world — a member of Primum Familiae Vini and co-founder of International Wineries for Climate Action, whose commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions and championing regenerative viticulture has made them as respected for their environmental conviction as for their wines. Viña Esmeralda is where that century and a half of expertise tastes its most immediately joyful and most completely Mediterranean.
