Elaboration

Taron Crianza 2016 is crafted by Bodegas Tarón from Tempranillo and Mazuelo grown in vineyards surrounding the villages of Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, Sajazarra, Tirgo and Villaseca — four small communities in the northernmost part of DOCa Rioja Alta, close to the Obarenes Mountains, where vineyards at 500 to 600 metres altitude and an average vine age of over 50 years produce grapes of natural richness and complexity. The wine is aged for 12 months in American oak barrels to develop its characteristic toasted, spiced and vanilla complexity, then given a further 6 months of bottle maturation before release — a patient and traditional approach that allows the wine to arrive in the glass fully integrated and genuinely expressive of its Rioja Alta origins.

Winemaker's Notes

Bright cherry red with violet edges and a high, inviting robe. On the nose, great fruitiness with strawberries and currants perfectly assembled with toasted and spicy notes from the American oak aging — a classic and harmonious Rioja Crianza portrait. On the palate, broad and graceful with marked acidity and good structure, carrying through to a long and vibrant aftertaste of ripe black fruit, vanilla and delicate smoke. A wine of genuine everyday elegance and Rioja tradition. Best enjoyed with veal and all kinds of stews. Serve between 16°C and 18°C.

Bodegas Tarón occupies a privileged position in the northernmost reaches of DOCa Rioja, surrounded by four small villages with deep rooted grape growing traditions and the dramatic Obarenes Mountains on the horizon. With more than 700 hectares of vineyards averaging over 50 years of age, this is a winery whose relationship with the land runs deep and whose wines carry the honest, consistent character of a region tended with patience and conviction across generations.
