Abadia Da Cova Xuno Viña Vieja 2018 is a Spanish red wine from Riberia Sacra. The grapes come from the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, a magical place known as O Cabo do Mundo.
The grapes have been picked using heroic viticulture, a practice that takes place in very difficult and steep vineyards, where the mechanical harvest is impossible and all the grapes need to be hand-picked.
The grapes to make this wine come from 7 different old vineyards over 300m that are 30 years old and have granite soils with variations in the levels of silt, sand, and clay.
The wine is aged for 6 months in oak barrels, in order to make the wine more subtle and complex.
This special label is based on the story of Juno: "When Jupiter contemplated Galicia for the first time, he was captivated by its beauty and created the Miño river, with which he crossed Galicia and made it his own. Jealous and resentful, Juno wanted to put an end to that love, tearing with a deep but beautiful wound; The Canyons of Sil. Blind with rage, Jupiter took revenge on Juno, condemning her to wander eternally through the steep wounds that she herself had created".
The label represents the story in 3 phases, on one side we have the storm (left side), that moment of anger and jealousy, a main part where Juno is, with a golden scepter placed in the meander so characteristic and visible from the cellar of Adegas Moure. And on the right side an image of that rich and fertile land where the vines grow. Also in the illustration, there is a hidden a peacock, always accompanying Juno in all representations of this matriarchal goddess.
This original and different wine label is also accompanied by a gold stamping on 3 prominent elements of the scene that identify each part of the story.
