The GR Família is Ferrer Mata's most personal and most patiently made expression — the Gran Reserva that bears the family name and carries the full weight of 50 years of artisanal Cava production in the Penedès. Since 1974, the Ferrer Mata family has been making Cavas of the highest quality from the autochthonous varieties of the Penedès using the traditional champenoise method, giving every wine the darkness and silent cellar rest that most producers either cannot afford or choose to skip. The GR Família skips nothing: Xarel·lo, Macabeo and Parellada from the finest Penedès fruit, aged more than 40 months in bottle, recently disgorged and then hand-stirred and hand-rinsed at the dedicated workstations of a family winery small enough to give every bottle individual, unhurried attention. Golden yellow, complex, nutty, creamy and roasted — with the fresh, dry citrus vitality that great Gran Reserva always preserves beneath its evolved character. Named for the family. Made exactly the way a name like that demands.
