Elaboration

Château Larcis Ducasse is an exceptional 1er Grand Cru Classé red wine from the renowned Saint-Emilion appellation. It is crafted from a blend of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, with only the best grapes carefully hand-picked and sorted. The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in barrels before being bottled on April 24th and 25th, 2019, resulting in the exquisite Château Larcis Ducasse Saint-Emilion Grand Crus.

The 2017 vintage is known as a being a complicated one. Despite the challenges faced during the 2017 growing season in Saint-Émilion, some remarkable wines were produced. Frost caused significant damage early on, but those who mitigated losses were rewarded with richer, riper fruit. Terroir played a major role in determining the quality of the vintage, with top wines emerging from areas closest to Pomerol. The best examples exhibit a soft demeanour, bright red fruit, spice and forest floor aromas, and firm but smooth tannins, emphasizing elegance over raw power. While some wines will be suited for early drinking, the best examples should age well with proper care.

Winemaker's Notes

Elegant and fine red colour. On the nose, it is fresh with aromas of small black and red currants. On the palate is light and pretty, with a good spicey concentration. It is quite tender, soft and with integrated oak. We recommend pairing the wine with Beef Wellington, duck, stews of lamb and game and confit de canard. We suggest a serving temperature of between 15º - 18ºC

About the Winery

Château Larcis Ducasse has been a very well-known winery from the Bordeaux region since the XVI century, when their wines were already being sold internationally by the Libourne wine merchant, Pierre Beylot. In 1893, Henry Raba, descendent of an illustrious Bordeaux family of shipbuilders and wine merchants, purchased Chateau Larcis Ducasse. Currently, Château Larcis Ducasse remains the property of the descendants of the Raba family. Jeanne Attmane and her brother, Jacques-Olivier Gratiot, each one of them co-managers, and their children who are extremely attached to the place, continue to preserve and maintain this marvellous heritage.
