Bodegas Zorzal was founded in 1989 by Antonio Sanz with a mission as clear as it was unfashionable at the time: to revive and celebrate Rioja's native grape varieties, in a landscape where international varieties were increasingly displacing the varieties that had defined the appellation for centuries. Located near Fitero on the lower Ebro River, the 40 hectares of Zorzal vineyards enjoy the natural freshness of an address that gives Garnacha and Tempranillo — the two native varieties at the heart of El Inquilino — the mineral precision and aromatic lift that the estate has always known how to express. Native yeast fermentation in large stainless steel tanks preserves the terroir character; 12 months in two-year-old French oak adds subtle complexity without imposing itself on the fruit and minerality that make this wine genuinely distinctive; and seven years of bottle development have refined everything into a Crianza of complete, honest and deeply satisfying personality.
