Elaboration

El Pájaro Rojo — the red bird — is a wine with a clear and honest purpose: to be shared, enjoyed and remembered for the right reasons. Produced by Losada Vinos de Finca from 100% Mencía grown in the lowest and coolest sections of the Bierzo valley, where the natural conditions of altitude, temperature and terroir allow the grape to express its most vibrant and characterful self, this is a wine that has been made with minimum intervention and maximum respect for what the land has to offer. The Losada estate, located halfway between Cacabelos and Villafranca in the upper Pieros — the most traditional wine-growing area in the entire denomination — is the foundation of a non-interventionist winemaking project built on the conviction that great vineyards and great terroir, handled with knowledge and restraint, produce wines of natural quality and genuine everyday pleasure. El Pájaro Rojo is where that conviction meets the glass at its most approachable and joyful.

Winemaker's Notes

Vivid and inviting in the glass — the natural colour and brightness of young Mencía from cool valley vineyards in full, honest expression. On the nose, delicate and genuinely lovely: violets and red fruits open with freshness and clarity, a light and aromatic portrait of Bierzo Mencía at its most direct and characterful. On the palate, rich and unctuous with a freshness and velvety texture that make this wine immediately and genuinely pleasurable — a young wine that exemplifies, as the winemaker rightly says, diversity and terroir to the fullest. The finish is clean, bright and satisfying in the way that only a wine made with real conviction and minimum intervention can be. A wine of everyday joy and genuine terroir character. Best enjoyed with rice dishes, pasta, pizza, barbecues, teriyaki salmon and cold meats. Serve between 12°C and 14°C.

Losada Vinos de Finca is an innovative project in El Bierzo built on a single, clear philosophy: that the terroir of D.O. Bierzo, expressed through non-interventionist winemaking and the knowledge of a great team tending great vineyards, is capable of producing wines of exceptional quality and genuine character at every price point. Located on the Losada estate halfway between Cacabelos and Villafranca in the upper Pieros — the most traditional wine-growing address in the denomination — the winery combines deep technical knowledge with a genuine respect for the land and a restless curiosity about what Bierzo is truly capable of when the winemaker steps back and lets the terroir speak.
