Forty years ago, the Zeppenfeld-Kreikenbaum family arrived in the Vale de Camelos — the Valley of the Camels — in the Alentejo region of Portugal, fell completely in love with the landscape and made a commitment that has shaped everything they have done since: to farm 1,000 hectares of Portuguese soil entirely organically and to make wines of exceptional quality from one of the country's most characterful and sun-drenched wine regions. The HDL Tinto is the fullest expression of that commitment: Aragonez — Portugal's name for Tempranillo — for structure and red fruit depth, Syrah for aromatic complexity and dark fruit intensity, and Alicante Bouschet for the deep colour and rich tannin character that the variety uniquely contributes as one of the few red-fleshed grape varieties in the world. Hand-harvested in the cool morning hours, fermented with strict yield control and consistent thinning, aged eight months first in stainless steel then in French barrels, and stabilised naturally before bottling — a process of complete organic conviction that earned a Platinum Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards. At €15, it is one of the most decorated and most quietly extraordinary value wines in the Dis&Dis collection.
