MacRobert & Canals was born from an unlikely union — Bryan MacRobert, a South African winemaker with a different perspective on what Rioja could be, and the Canals family, who have been settled in the appellation for over forty years and know its soils, its vineyards and its climate with the intimacy that only four decades of continuous presence builds. Together, they produce transparent wines of special quality that show the true diversity of D.O.Ca Rioja — working with deep respect for the environment at every stage, from sustainable viticulture in the vineyard to the deliberate, patient winemaking that gives each wine its distinctive character. The Laventura Viura is the most eloquent expression of that philosophy: Viura, Malvasía and Garnacha Blanca aged for a full year on lees in barrel — developing the layers of apple, pear, peach and apricot on the nose, the brioche and biscuit complexity on the mid-palate, and the lingering, textured finish that 4,308 bottles of production makes achingly exclusive. A Rioja white made by an outsider who understood the appellation's potential before most insiders did.
