Bernard Magrez has spent 40 years building one of the most remarkable private wine empires in France — a portfolio that includes Château La Tour Carnet, a Grand Cru Classé du Médoc, and dozens of estates across the world's finest appellations, each managed with the determination and commitment to quality that have made Magrez the most prominent wine owner and advertiser in France. Le Paon Rouge — the Red Peacock — takes its name and its label from the family of peacocks that has lived at Château La Tour Carnet for generations, and most specifically from the rare white peacock among them: an extraordinary specimen that captivates every visitor to the estate and embodies, as Magrez sees it, the same sense of beauty and elegance that every wine in his portfolio aspires to. The wine itself is a classic Languedoc blend of four southern French varieties — 50% Grenache Noir for warmth and fruit generosity, 30% Syrah for structure and dark fruit depth, 15% Carignan for mineral backbone and longevity, 5% Cinsault for aromatic freshness and elegance — fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and macerated for 20 to 28 days to develop the full colour, complexity and character that the Languedoc's sun-drenched terroir always provides when the winemaking gives it the time it deserves.

Winemaker's Notes

Ruby red in the glass — bright, warm and immediately inviting. On the nose, fruity and full — the generous, sun-charged aromatic portrait of four complementary southern French varieties in complete harmony, each contributing its own distinct dimension to a nose of real presence and appeal. On the palate, full-bodied with good acidity and genuine complexity — the 20 to 28-day maceration giving depth and structure that the stainless steel ageing preserves with complete freshness and fruit integrity. A wine of easy, honest generosity that is considerably more complete than its price suggests. Best enjoyed with red meats and vegetables.
