For a long time, alcohol-free wine was a compromise. A category for people who had no choice — not one that serious wine drinkers would choose. That is no longer true.

The de-alcoholisation technology available to serious winemakers today removes the alcohol from a fully-made wine while preserving the aromatics, the structure, the texture, and the character. The result, done well, is a wine that tastes like wine — not like grape juice, not like a substitute, but like the real thing.

The evidence is independent. 96 points at the London Wine Competition, where the same judges score conventional wine. 90 points from Falstaff. Gold medals at Mundus Vini three years in succession. These are not consolation prizes for a category considered beneath serious scrutiny.

This is the collection that changed our minds. We think it will change yours.

HOW IT WORKS

How alcohol is removed from wine

01

The wine is made first

The grapes are harvested, fermented, and vinified exactly as they would be for a conventional wine. The winemaking craft — the terroir, the producer's skill, the vintage — all apply in full. The alcohol is removed afterward, not instead.

02

Gentle de-alcoholisation

The most advanced method uses vacuum distillation or spinning cone technology. The wine is processed at very low temperatures, which means the volatile aromatic compounds — the things that make wine smell and taste like wine — are preserved while the alcohol evaporates. The result retains the structure, the body, and the character of the original.

03

The same standard applied

The AF wines in this collection are sourced from the same serious producers who make the conventional wines we carry. We apply the same editorial standard: every bottle must have something genuinely worth knowing about it. Award credentials, producer heritage, and genuine quality are required — not just the absence of alcohol.

Zero alcohol. Zero compromise. 90 points Falstaff. Tell us again that alcohol-free wine cannot be serious.

QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know

The honest answer is: it depends entirely on who made it and how. The category has undergone a serious quality revolution in the past five years. The wines in this collection have been selected by the same editorial standard we apply to conventional wine — they must have something genuinely worth knowing about them. Several of them have won international competition medals from the same judges who score conventional wine. We would not carry them if we did not think they were worth drinking.
Alcohol-free wine contains 0.5% ABV or less — effectively no alcohol, comparable to many fruit juices. Low-alcohol wine is typically 5–9% ABV, produced by early harvesting or blending. The wines in this collection are true alcohol-free, made by full de-alcoholisation of a conventionally produced wine. The alcohol is removed after vinification, not instead of it.
The best examples — including the award-winning bottles in this collection — taste like wine. Not like grape juice, not like a substitute. The de-alcoholisation technology used by serious producers preserves the aromatics, the structure, and the character of the original wine. The absence of alcohol does change the texture slightly — alcohol adds body — but the flavour profile of a well-made AF wine is genuinely impressive. The 96 points from the London Wine Competition were awarded blind, by the same panel that judges conventional wine. That is the most objective answer available.
We cannot make medical recommendations. The NHS and equivalent health bodies advise pregnant women to avoid all alcohol including very low alcohol beverages. Our AF wines contain 0.5% ABV or less, which is comparable to many fruit juices, but we recommend consulting a healthcare professional for specific guidance during pregnancy.
Yes — and we actively recommend it for any gift order where you are unsure whether the recipient drinks. Our AF collection includes award-winning bottles across every style. Every recipient gets something genuinely worth drinking. Contact us for corporate gifting enquiries that include AF alongside conventional wine.
Most AF white and sparkling wines benefit from refrigeration before serving, exactly as conventional wine does. AF red wines are typically served at cool room temperature. Once opened, AF wines should be consumed within 2–3 days and kept refrigerated — they have a shorter shelf life than conventional wine because the preserving effect of the alcohol is absent.
