The Route des Châteaux is one of the most celebrated roads in the wine world — a stretch of the Médoc where the names on the gateposts represent the history, the geology and the accumulated winemaking ambition of nearly seven centuries of Bordeaux viticulture. Château Labégorce stands on this road adjacent to Châteaux Margaux and Lascombes, on a 250-hectare neoclassical estate of which nearly 70 are planted to vines — a property first mentioned in the 1868 edition of Édouard Féret as "one of the most beautiful and best situated in the commune of Margaux," with land records tracing the existence of the Noble de La Bégorce estate back to 1332. Since the Perrodo family purchased it in 1989, Labégorce has been restored to the winemaking dynamism and beautiful structure that its terroir always promised. Zédé de Labégorce is the second wine of the estate — a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, hand-picked at perfect ripeness and aged 12 to 15 months in barrels with 40% new oak, producing a Margaux of genuine finesse, charming fruit and the persistent, structured elegance that nearly 700 years of history on this particular piece of Bordeaux soil make feel entirely natural.
