Casa da Urra Colheita Seleccionada 2017 is produced on a remarkable 180 hectare estate near the picturesque hamlet of Urra in the Alto Alentejo — a uniquely positioned property where the flat Alentejo plain gives way to the dramatic São Mamede Hills, not far from the Spanish frontier. The blend of Syrah and Touriga Nacional is hand harvested before fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine then ages for 15 months in new French oak barrels — a serious and deliberate program that builds the concentration, mature tannin structure and aromatic complexity that defines this Colheita Seleccionada. A wine that carries both the warmth of the Alentejo plains and the elevation and freshness of the São Mamede Hills in its character.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep garnet with intensity and natural presence. On the nose, intense and complex with shades of ripe black fruit and the warm, concentrated character that Syrah and Touriga Nacional from the Alto Alentejo naturally produce. On the palate, well structured and generous with mature, soft tannins and a long, satisfying finish that speaks of 15 months of careful new French oak maturation. A wine of real depth and Alentejo conviction. Best enjoyed with smoked meats and cheese. Serve at 16°C.

About the Winery

Casa da Urra occupies one of the Alto Alentejo's most beautifully situated estates — 180 hectares near the hamlet of Urra, where vineyards, sheep pasture and montado landscape coexist in the shadow of the São Mamede Hills, just a short distance from the Spanish border. The house itself, once in ruins, was lovingly restored by a couple whose professional lives were devoted to medicine but whose hearts belonged to art, culture and the belief that this exceptional landscape deserved a wine estate worthy of its natural beauty. That conviction lives in every bottle Casa da Urra produces.
