Elaboration

Created with 100% Merlot grapes from the renowned Haut Medoc appellation, this captivating organic red comes from 8 hectares of vines in Vertheuil, north of Paillac. Only top-notch organic and biodynamic farming practices were used to cultivate the grapes of this exquisite wine, and it stayed true to the nature of the vine with no added sulphites. It was macerated for 24 days and then aged in concrete vats for 6 months, allowing the delicious aromas to really flourish. But that's not all. What truly puts this wine in a league of its own is the label designed by François Houtin. Artistically showcasing the vine in its natural state, it reflects the essence of the wine so well and shows the careful attention given to both the farming practices and the design of this work of art.

Ceres De Haut-Bages Liberal Organic Merlot is a truly magnificent wine to behold. Crafted with the utmost attention to detail and a passion for excellence, it is a fruity and floral delight, with outstanding structure and unbeatable acidity. Named after the Greek goddess of agriculture and fertility, Ceres is the perfect companion to red meat, duck, and steak, and is best enjoyed at a temperature of between 16ºC and 18º. We invite you to take the time to appreciate the complexity of Ceres, and bring a little of its flavor and vibrancy to your dining table.

About the Winery

Château Haut-Bages Libéral, a fifth-growth winery, is an astounding testament to family heritage and Bordeaux's significance. Owned and managed by the renowned couple Claire Lurton and Gonzague Lurton, Bordeaux-born themselves, the winery underwent a revolutionary transformation after they took over from Claire's parents in 1992. Situated on the left bank of Bordeaux in Pauillac, adjacent to the renowned Château Latour, the winery occupies prime real estate in Bages, just south of Pauillac. With a profound understanding of the terroir and the gravelly soil, Claire works harmoniously with the land to craft exceptional wines renowned for their complexity and concentration. The vineyard spans 30 hectares, elegantly divided between the winery and the nearby area of Pichon, offering a diversity of aromas to the wines. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the plantings, accounting for approximately 70% of the vines, while Merlot represents the remaining 30%. Additional varieties such as Malbec, Carménère, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot also find their place in the vineyard. Under the stewardship of Claire and Gonzague, Château Haut-Bages Libéral transitioned to biodynamic practices in 2008, a journey that took a decade to establish. This sustainable approach, driven by a deep commitment to the environment, rewarded the winery with fragrant, complex, and concentrated wines. Not content with their achievements in Bordeaux alone, Claire and Gonzague expanded their portfolio with additional successful châteaus within Bordeaux and even founded an estate in Sonoma. Inspired by a right-bank tasting, where they encountered the delightful light and fruity style of wines produced by one of the few biodynamic wineries in Bordeaux, Gonzague and Claire decided to apply the same principles to Château Haut-Bages Libéral. Conscious of the impact of global warming, they embraced sustainable methods in their winemaking journey.
