J. Chivite Family Estates has been making wine in Navarra since 1647 — a winemaking lineage of eleven generations that makes it one of the oldest continuously operating family estates in Spain and one of the most authoritative voices in the appellation's history. Finca Legardeta is their Garnacha estate — a property in the heart of Navarra where the variety that defined this region long before Rioja claimed all the attention is farmed with the meticulous viticulture and generational expertise that nearly four centuries of accumulated knowledge produces when it is applied to a single variety on a single estate with complete conviction. The 2017, now carrying seven years of bottle development, presents Garnacha at its most complete and most layered: ripe red berries in liqueur with violet candy and blueberry yogurt on the nose, the complexity unfolding on the palate through ripe earthiness, subtle vegetal nuance and the lively acidity that keeps the wine alive and engaging from first sip to last. Guía Peñín scored it 92 points. The Chivite family has been earning scores like that for longer than most wineries have existed.
