Mar de Frades — Sea of Friars — takes its name from the small point at the mouth of the Umia river where ancient pilgrims once landed to continue their journey to Santiago de Compostela. It is a name that carries centuries of Atlantic history, and a winery that has honoured that history since 1987 by crafting Albariño wines built entirely around the personality and character of the ocean that surrounds them. This four-bottle case brings together four expressions of that conviction: 100% Albariño from the heart of Rías Baixas, hand-picked and vinified with complete respect for freshness, mineral precision and the marine character that this appellation delivers when everything is done right. Ripe citrus and tropical fruit on the nose, crisp acidity and refreshing balance on the palate, and the subtle mineral and herbal complexity of the Umia river mouth soils running through everything from first sip to last. Recognised with 90 points by both Decanter and Guía Peñín. Certified vegan. And when the bottles are chilled, a boat appears on the label — because Mar de Frades has always understood that the Atlantic is not just where the wine comes from. It is what the wine is.

Winemaker's Notes

Bright and luminous in the glass — the clean, pale colour of Atlantic Albariño made with complete respect for freshness and marine character. On the nose, ripe citrus and tropical fruit with subtle herbs and the quiet mineral presence of the Atlantic — vivid, natural and immediately appealing. On the palate, crisp acidity and refreshing freshness in lively, complete balance — bright enough for seafood, fresh enough for sushi, present enough for creamy pasta and light poultry. A wine that tastes entirely of where it comes from, without apology or embellishment. Best enjoyed with grilled prawns, seared scallops, seafood paella, sushi and light poultry. Serve at 11°C — and watch the boat appear.
