Elaboration
Priorat is one of only two Spanish appellations to hold the D.O.Ca. designation — the country's highest quality classification — and its reputation rests almost entirely on the llicorella: the ancient slate and quartz soils that force vine roots deep in search of water, concentrating everything the vine produces into grapes of extraordinary intensity and mineral precision. What the world knows about Priorat is built on its reds. What Serras del Priorat Blanco 2020 quietly demonstrates is that the same soils, the same slopes and the same uncompromising terroir produce white wines of equal distinction in the right hands. Clos Figueras — a winery with a passion for this landscape since 1997 and a conviction that Priorat's boundaries are still being discovered — has crafted a blend of Garnacha Blanca and Viognier that captures the appellation's full aromatic generosity and mineral depth in a single, elegant white. Citrus and peach on the nose, crisp acidity and fruity freshness on the palate, a long and satisfying mineral finish. 92 points from James Suckling. The terroir delivering exactly what it always promised.
About the Winery
Bright and inviting in the glass — the clean, luminous colour of a white wine built from two varieties that understand each other completely on Priorat's ancient slate soils. On the nose, citrus and peach open with natural freshness and a sun-warmed generosity that speaks of Garnacha Blanca's body and Viognier's characteristic aromatic lift in perfect harmony — with a hint of minerality adding the quiet, clarifying signature of llicorella beneath every note. On the palate, fruity freshness and crisp acidity deliver a balance of immediate pleasure and genuine structure — versatile, complete and persistently satisfying through to a long finish that carries the mineral character of the terroir all the way to its conclusion. A white wine that earns its 92 Suckling points with every sip. Best enjoyed with seafood, creamy pastas, fresh salads and spicy Asian cuisine. Serve between 8 and 10°C.
