Solar de Urbezo

Cariñena

Spain

Santiago Gracia Ysiegas' winery is located in Cariñena, a region of Aragon, 45 km from Zaragoza. One of the regions with the oldest winemaking traditions in the whole of Spain.
In 1995, Santiago took up his family tradition and founded the winery Bodegas Solar de Urbezo.

Winemaking here dates back to the 3rd century, when the Romans lived in the area.

Vineyard care has been preserved throughout the ages and is, to this day, an essential part of the region's way of life, historical and cultural heritage.

The vineyards of Urbezo are 100% organic, located at altitude, marked by extreme climate, with freezing winters and hot summers, infrequent rains and calcareous soils of clay and gravel.

Although unfriendly at first glance, the soils are ideal for winemakers looking for low yields but high quality.

Solar de Urbezo cultivates 100 hectares of vineyards with care and love for the environment to produce organic grapes that concentrate the flavours, colours and structure of the terroir.

In Spain it is said that Cariñena D.O. people make wine from dry stone.

Hard work and skill make it possible for varieties such as Grenache, Carignan, Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Syrah and Chardonnay marked by the specifics of the climate and soil to result in complex, well-balanced wines with an unmistakable character that are a must-try.
