Château Clos Haut-Peyraguey
A.O.C Sauternes Premier Grand Cru
France
The Clos Haut-Peyraguey vineyard is a special place, nestled in the hills of Bommes commune and sitting opposite Château d’Yquem.
This ancient barony has been producing its unique Sauternes wine since 1618 and today, thanks to its unique terroir and climatic conditions, together with an ancestral knowledge passed down over the centuries, it continues to produce a golden-coloured wine that's fit for true connoisseurs.
It was first classified as Premier Cru Classé in 1855 and since then it has been split into two (Lafaurie-Peyraguey and Clos Haut-Peyraguey) before being purchased by Bernard Magrez from the Pauly family in 2012.
Today, Bernard Magrez lavishes meticulous care on this Sauternes Premier Grand Cru to make sure it remains at the highest level of excellence, so that all who try it can experience its unique symphony of flavour.
Clos Haut-Peyraguey is situated on 12 hectares of land, 8 of which form a single block close to the Ciron River. The complex gravelly-sandy soils make for great growing conditions for the Sémillion and Sauvignon grapes grown here.
Sustainable farming is used in the vineyards and when the infamous noble rot appears, handpicking ensures only the best berries are chosen.
This estate has earned quite a reputation with awards from wine challenges around the world and recognition from many prestigious publications.
